Silwan Lantern roams the towns and neighborhoods of Jerusalem
With a wonderful initiative from Burj Al-Luqluq Society, Al-Bustan Association Silwan, Bandley Group, and The clown “ZoZo”funded by vakt-i-kiraat Turkish Association, Silwan Lantern was launched to roam the streets and neighborhoods of Jerusalem, spreading joy between the children.
As an expansion of the historical Jerusalem lantern, “The Lantern of Al-Burj”, and due to the Coronavirus pandemic which prevented us from our traditional Celebration , Al-Bustan Association Silwan took the initiative to light the Lantern of Silwan by the beginning of the holy month, after it was constructed last year as part of Ramadan activities in Jerusalem where it was illuminated by organizing religious evening.
The idea was developed to launch the lantern carried by a vehicle accompanied by religious vocalist, a children’s clown, and a Palestinian storyteller, to roam the streets of Jerusalem from Silwan to Jabal Al-Mukabber, Wadi Al-Joz, Al-Sheikh Jarrah, Al-Sowaneh, Al-Tour, Al-Eisawiyeh, Sour Baher, and finally with Shu’fat.
In spite of the presence of multiple lanterns, the lantern of Silwan was distinguished by its Palestinian character which was prepared by the Palestinian associations who aimed at relieving pressure, anxiety and tension, especially during quarantine period.
The lantern received positive interactions from Jerusalemites, who appreciated the idea of spreading joy, and received the lantern with warm welcoming.
It was greeted by volunteers from the scouts groups and clubs of each town, who facilitated the lantern path without creating gatherings in the streets that inconsistent with the protection requirements.
In a speech to the Chairman of the Board of the Al-Bustan Association Silwan, Kutaybah Odeh, in which he thanked the Palestinian community clubs and associations that received and facilitated the lanterns’ walk in the towns, and were partners in success of the activities, noting that he consider the true success is the joy that they saw in people’s eyes and heard in their voices while they were cheering, adding that this activity is not the first cooperation between Al-Bustan and Burj Al-Luqluq, but it comes within a series of permanent activities to combine their mutual visions and goals of success for the benefit of Jerusalem and its people. He also thanked Burj Al-Luqluq for their permanent support, unconditional cooperation and endless giving.
From his side, the program coordinator at Burj Al-Luquq Alaa Jamjoum, emphasized that the association (Al-Burj) will continue its first idea, the historical lantern of Ramadan, saying that the idea was launched in Burj Al-Luquq in the old city of Jerusalem and went towards Silwan, then roamed the streets in different neighborhoods in Jerusalem, and it will be everywhere next year, keeping the Palestinian character and the heritage of Jerusalem.
He added that the director of Burj Al-Luqluq association, Muntaser Edkeidek, supervised all the details side by side with the Chairman of Al-Bustan Association, in a cooperation at the highest level for serving Jerusalem and Jerusalemites.
And in a speech for the initiative Bashar Abu Shamsiyeh, in which he expressed his pleasure for the success of the idea and its positive impact on the souls of Jerusalemites who waited for the lantern at every station with joy, love and hospitality. Saying that this initiative demonstrated that Palestinian associations can come out with huge ideas that are reflected positively on the streets, and fill the gap that others may seek to fill
