Al Bustan Association Silwan celebrated the lighting of the first Ramadan lantern near Al-Bustan solidarity tent in Silwan, southern Al-Aqsa Mosque, on Saturday evening, 11 May, 6 Ramadan.

Residents of Silwan and Al Bustan attended the activities, besides of the Governor of Jerusalem, Adnan Ghaith, the Secretary of the Silwan Region Ahmad Abbasi, Director of Burj Al-Luqluq Association, Muntaser Idkidek, Director of the National Coalition Zakaria Odeh and number of Jerusalem institutions.

Dr. Amani Odeh, a member of the board of directors of Al Bustan Silwan, welcomed the attendees and the participating institutions in the activities of lighting the first Ramadan lantern in Al Bustan neighborhood, the heart of Silwan.
Al-Bustan Scouts group toured the streets of the neighborhood, while “Dandis” group for the prayers and religious songs celebrated the evening, and Bashar Abu Shamsiah, the tour guide, recounted the story of the steadfastness of Silwan.

From his part, the Governor of Jerusalem Adnan Ghaith congratulated the Palestinian people in general, especially the people of Silwan, on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan, Saying: “Today we stand in Al Bustan neighborhood, which has been subjected to escalating violations by the occupation authorities for the purpose of removing it and hiding its Arab Jerusalemite identity. The first Ramadan lantern in the heart of Al Bustan neighborhood, emphasize Arabism, sanctity, identity and Palestine. This holy city is exposed to several Judaic projects aimed at the liquidation of the Palestinian existence. “

While Kutaybah Odeh, Chairman the board of directors of Al Bustan Association Silwan, said: “The lighting of the Ramadan lantern in the heart of Al Bustan neighborhood, which is threatened with demolition and removal in favor of the Judaization plans, is part of the confirmation and preservation of the city’s Arab identity, in addition to religious events and evenings during the holy month of Ramadan.
He added that in the difficult circumstances experienced by the city of Jerusalem, its residents, specifically in the neighborhood Bustan need these manifestations that send joy in the hearts of our children and women and our elders.

“What distinguishes Ramadan activities from its previous year is the gathering of more than 12 institutions in the city of Jerusalem to serve the people of Jerusalem and its visitors,” said tour guide Bashar Abu Shamsiah, the coordinator of Ramadan events in Jerusalem.
He added: “These events will continue throughout the holy month of Ramadan, and will include about 15 tours inside and outside the city of Jerusalem.”

The lighting of the lantern in Silwan is the third event since the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan, after an evening and a tour in the Old City of Jerusalem, as well as the lighting of the largest lantern in Burj Al-Luqluq Association in the Old City last Thursday.
